Template Variables
Template variables are used to define the Form Template settings and configurations. They are declared inside the <Form>
-tag of the Form Template file.
Some of the variables are obligatory, others are optional.
<!-- landscape title -->
<var data-hf-name="Title">Demo Form</var>
<!-- Provide info on the Form Template version -->
<var data-hf-name="info" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="DataSource" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="FormDevCatalogIncludes" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="AppKioskMode" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="SketchTemplates" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="ListPageFavorites" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="ApproveButton" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="DrawingColorPalette" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="IconPicker" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="PdfSettings" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="TabMenuSettings" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="FormSettings" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="MediaSettings" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="Initializer" ...></var>
<var data-hf-name="Reachout" ...></var>
Title(s)*
The Form Template title is displayed in the page header (on the list and Form page) or other parts of your Form.
<!-- title -->
<var data-hf-name="Title">FORM REPAIR</var>
Per default the title is displayed in the page header of the list and Form page. But you can use the title variable in other parts of your Form as well (eg. in the title template as shown in the example above).
You can place the title variable in any part of your Form Template with the data-hf-bind: data.FormTitle
attribute.
<span data-hf-bind="innerHTML: data.FormTitle"></span>
Version Info*
The version info variable provides form version information and can define min App and min server version. The <var>
tag with the name info
is required in the Form Template file, any template upload without version info will fail.
<form>
...
<var
data-hf-name="info"
data-hf-version="2.1.0"
data-hf-date="2019-10-29T11:40:02"
data-hf-min-app-version="6.7.0"
data-hf-min-server-version="6.6.4"
data-hf-conditions-on-render="true"
>
</var>
...
</form>
The attributes data-hf-version
and the data-hf-date
are required, others are optional.
If a minimum App version (data-hf-min-app-version
) or a minimum server version (data-hf-min-server-version
) is defined, this condition gets checked client-side.
If the minimum version condition is not met, an error message is shown to the user.
The attribute data-hf-conditions-on-render
is optional and can be set to true
or false
.
If set to true
form conditions are processed on form render, if set to false
form conditions processed on first page visit.
The version information will be displayed at the settings page:
Version information
DataSource
If data sources are not directly referenced within our controls (eg. a ComboBox through the url
option) but used in Custom Code, they must be defined in a DataSource
form variable.
<var data-hf-name="DataSource" data-hf-data-source-id="Staat"
>/api/catalogs/Staat?$select=Title,KatalogText&$orderby=KatalogText&$top=5000</var
>
On Form Template subscription the catalog within the <var>
tag gets attached to the form.
It can be accessed through Form-API method HybridForms.API.FormStorage.getDataSource
by the name set at data-hf-data-source-id
attribute.
FormDev DataSources
In the formDev environment any catalog inside your HTML-file referenced by URL has to be replaced by a JSON-file. For example the previously declared DataSource "Staat" has to be present as "catalog.Staat.json" inside your folder to get the catalog in the formDev environment.
For FormControls with data sources (ComboBoxes, DropDownLists) the JSON-files could be referenced in two ways:
- by the catalog name, eg:
catalag.<CatalogName>.json
. TheCatalogName
is the name that you reference in theurl
property of the control - by the id of the form control (deprecated), eg:
catalag.<FormControlID>.json
In case of multiple form templates using one .templ-file it is necessary to provide these JSON-files in each definition folder.
By declaring the variable FormDevCatalogIncludes
it is possible to reduce the number of files by storing the JSON-files in the template folder only.
<var
data-hf-name="FormDevCatalogIncludes"
data-hf-catalogs='[
{ "catalog": "../FormTempl.templ/catalog.CatalogName01.json" },
{ "catalog": "../FormTempl.templ/catalog.CatalogName02.json" }
]'
>
</var>
In this example all Form Controls including the catalog urls /api/catalogs/CatalogName01/?$select=...
and /api/catalogs/CatalogName02/?$select=...
load the substitutional data source from the template folder.
App Kiosk Mode
The App Kiosk Mode is designed for providing the possibility to let unauthorized persons fill out forms in a secure way.
To enable the App Kiosk Mode the <var>
tag has to be set:
<var data-hf-name="AppKioskMode" ... ><var>
For more information on the App Kiosk Mode please refer to page "App Kiosk Mode".
Sketch Templates
Define background images for sketches inside your Form Template.
Additional to the standard backgrounds of the HybridForms App (i.e. "blank" and "grid"), you can add predefined backgrounds by declaring background images inside your Form Template.
<!-- background images for sketches -->
<var
data-hf-name="SketchTemplates"
data-hf-templates='[
{"image": "sketchBackground01.jpg", "label": "Testtemplate"},
{"image": "schaltplan.png", "label": "Schaltplan", "thumbnailImage": "schaltplan_tn.png"},
{"image": "sketchBackground02.jpg", "label": "Platine"},
{"image": "sketchBackground03.jpg", "label": "Nebula"}
]'
data-hf-show-default-templates="true"
>
</var>
Sketch templates
The specific backgrounds are defined by listing the image name and the display label inside a JSON array.
Provide the images the same way as other images referenced inside your Form Template.
The JSON array consists of the key/value pairs "image", "label", "thumbnailImage", where image and label are required data and the thumbnailImage is optional. If no "thumbnailImage" property is provided, the original image is presented on the sketch gallery. If you provide high resolution sketch templates always provide a thumbnail image, because the size of the image and the number of sketch templates could lead to performance issues.
The variable option data-hf-show-default-templates
can be configured as true
, thereby enabling the default sketch backgrounds within the HybridForms App, or it can be set as false
to disable them.
ListPage Favorites
By employing this variable, you can predefine how listings of forms are sorted, grouped and filtered. A user can define and save favorits of form listings in the App. With this variable predefined "form favorites" can be set that are then available for every user for this Form Template.
ListPage Favorites
Each user has the possibility to define and save personal "user favorites" based on his own assembly of sort, filter and group criterias.
The JSON array entries can contain the key/value pairs "label", "sorting", "grouping", "filter" and "default" where only the key/value pair "label" is required.
Defining a list page favorite with only a label will set the layout of the list page to the HybridForms App default settings. These are "grouping" none, "sorting" - ascending by date "last modified" and "filter" none.
The values of "sorting", "grouping", "filter" are nested JSON objects and have to contain the key/value pairs "id" and "type", the setting "filter" additional the key/value pair "filterValue". The key/value pair "direction" is optional.
<var
data-hf-name="ListPageFavorites"
data-hf-favorites='[
{
"label": "Group by Date, Sort by Combobox",
"sorting": {"id":"tab1_combobox_statisch", "direction": "ascending", "type": "text"},
"grouping":{"id":"lastModified", "direction": "ascending", "type":"date"},
"default": false
},
{
"label": "Forms edited last week",
"grouping":{"id":"lastModified", "direction": "ascending", "type":"date"},
"sorting": {"id":"tab1_combobox_statisch", "direction": "descending", "type": "text"},
"filter": {"id": "lastModified", "label":"Last Modified", "type": "date", "filterValue":"lastWeek"},
"default": false
} ,
{
"label": "Forms in Stage 1",
"filter": {"id": "stage", "label":"Stage 1", "type": "stage", "filterValue":[{"value": "ST1", "text": "Stage ST1"}]},
"default": false
} ,
{
"label": "Checkbox activated",
"filter": {"id": "checkboxh1", "label":"Checked", "type": "checkbox", "filterValue": true},
"default": false
}
]'

The definition affects all drawing possibilities (inside the features and Form Controls).
Custom Color Palette
The JSON array entries contain the key/value pairs "color", "text" and "default" where key/value pair "color" and "text" are required.
The variables option data-hf-extend-default-colors
has to be a boolean value:
true
extends the HybridForms App default color palette. If new default color is set in FormDefintion the HybridForms App default color will be overwritten.false
overwrites the HybridForms App default color palette.- If not set the HybridForms App default color palette will be overwritten.
<var
data-hf-name="DrawingColorPalette"
data-hf-colors='[
{ "color": "#000000", "text": "black" },
{ "color": "#0000ff", "text": "blue" },

Structure
data-hf-icons
is used to define all available sets of icons.
It is implemented as an array of objects with the following properties:
- title (string): The title of the icon picker variable. It provides a brief description or label for the set of icons it represents.
- icons (array): An array of objects representing the individual icons within the set. Each icon object contains two properties: label and name.
- label (string): A short description or label for the icon. It helps users understand the purpose or meaning of the icon.
- name (string): The name or identifier of the icon. It should be unique within the set of icons and can be used to reference the selected icon.
PDF Settings
Use this variable to control the PDF output.
For more information on the possibilities please refer to page "Create PDF"
TabMenu Settings
Use this variable to control the tab menu.
Property | Options/Type | Description |
---|---|---|
data-hf-disable-fixed-menu | boolean, Array | Dis/Enable fixed tab menu. It can have an array of tab ids to only hide specific tab titles. |
data-hf-scrollable-menu | boolean, Array | Dis/Enable a scrollable tab menu, which overflows the viewport var(--ifm-alert-border-width). It can have an array of page ids to remove only the page breaks after specific pages. |

Form Settings
Use this variable to control form settings for HybridForms.
<var
data-hf-name="FormSettings"
data-hf-formLogo="logo.png"
data-hf-formLogoDark="logo-dark.png"
data-hf-formLogoWidth="80"
data-hf-characterWhiteListRegExp="[a-zA-Z0-9äöüßÄÖÜ\-.,;:_!@#%&()?'`+=]"
data-hf-characterWhiteList="abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789äöüßÄÖÜ\-.,;:_!@#%&()?'`+="
data-hf-invalidCharacterErrorText='The following characters are not allowed in filenames: "{0}". The file could not be uploaded.'
>
</var>
Form Logo
To customize the form's appearance, you can set a logo that will be displayed in the Navbar.
Use the data-hf-formLogo
attribute to specify the filename of the logo image, which must be located in the Template folder.
data-hf-formLogoDark
can be used to specify a dark version of the logo for a dark theme.
Additionally, the size of the logo can be adjusted with the data-hf-formLogoWidth
attribute,
where the value represents the width of the logo as a percentage of the Navbar's width.
For example, setting data-hf-formLogo="logo.png"
will use "logo.png" as the logo,
and data-hf-formLogoWidth="50"
will set the logo's width to 50% of the Navbar's width.
Character Whitelist
Use this option to set a whitelist of allowed characters for all Form Controls.
You can use the regular expression or the string version of the whitelist. If both are provided the regular expression is used.
Optionally you can provide your own error text for the invalid character error message.
If you want to give the user a hint what characters are not accepted in the current input you can use the placeholder {0}
in your error text (E.g: "The following characters are invalid: 0").
You can also provide translation keys.
If no error text is provided a default error message is used.
The character whitelist is also applied to file names of uploaded media files. If you want to allow special characters in the file name you have to provide them in the character whitelist media settings variable.
Media Settings
Use this variable to control media settings for HybridForms.
<var
data-hf-name="MediaSettings"
data-hf-compression='{
"type": "compress",
"options": {
"format": "jpg",
"jpgQuality": 0.1,
"maxDimension": 1400
}
}'
data-hf-condition='{
"cond": [{
"type": "stage",
"id": "S1",
"val": true
}],
"else": "invisible"
}'
data-hf-condition-picture='{
"cond": [{
"type": "stage",
"id": "S1",
"val": true
}],
"else": "readonly",
"addNewMedia": true
}'
data-hf-characterWhiteListRegExp="[a-zA-Z0-9äöüßÄÖÜ\-.,;:_!@#%&()?'`+=]"
data-hf-characterWhiteList="abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789äöüßÄÖÜ\-.,;:_!@#%&()?'`+="
data-hf-invalidCharacterErrorText="{{@InvalidCharsErrorText}}"
data-hf-saveImageToPhotoAlbum="true"
data-hf-maxFilenameLength="10"
data-hf-registerMaps="googleMapsApiKey,hfMap-MapLibreBaseMap,Basemap-OpenLayers"
>
</var>
Picture Compression
Use this option to set picture compression for all uploaded images inside this form.
The definition affects all image uploads (inside features and Form Controls).
<var
data-hf-name="MediaSettings"
data-hf-compression='{
"type": "compress",
"options": {
"format": "jpg",
"jpgQuality": 0.1,
"maxDimension": 1400
}
}'
>
</var>
The value of the data-hf-compression
must be a JSON string.
The typescript representation of the condition object is defined below:
interface IPictureCompression {
type: 'original' | 'compress';
options: IPictureCompressionOptions;
}
interface IPictureCompressionOptions {
format: 'jpg' | 'png' | 'original';
jpgQuality: number;
maxDimension: number;
}
key | value | How to use | Description |
---|---|---|---|
type* | String | "type": "compress" | Enable or disable picture compression by setting type to compress or original . |
options | Object | "options": { ... } | Define the compression depth. |
* These options are required.
Compression options
key | value | How to use | Description |
---|---|---|---|
format | String | "format": "jpg" | Set the image format of the output file. Conversions to png or jpg format are supported, default is original (the original image format remains the same). |
jpgQuality | Number | "jpgQuality": 0.1 | Set the jpg image quality to compress the output file. Values between 0.1 and 1 are supported. Default value is 0.9 . Note: All uploaded jpgs get compressed. If the format option is set to jpg , all pictures get compressed with the given value. |
maxDimension | Number | "maxDimension": 1400 | Set the maximum dimension of the output file. If this property is not provided, the dimensions of the image are not altered. |
maxSizeMB | Number | "maxSizeMB": 3 | Set the maximum file size of the output file. Default is the maximum size of the upload limit of your server. Note: It is recommended to use the maxDimension option to reduce file size instead of this property. |
If no options are provided and the type is set to "compress", the image file gets compressed with the default values.
On iOS devices, images are always compressed to a maximum of 8192 pixels on the longest side because of memory limitations.
Feature Conditions
This setting controls the visibility and validation of our media libraries by adding conditions. The same rules apply as for form control conditions.
Only the property addNewMedia
is specific to the media library conditions.
If the property addNewMedia
is set to true
the user can add new media files to the library even if the condition is not met.
If only the data-property data-hf-condition
is provided, the condition is applied to all different types of media libraries.
If the data-property data-hf-condition-audio
is provided, the condition is applied to the audio library only.
If the data-property data-hf-condition-document
is provided, the condition is applied to the document library only.
If the data-property data-hf-condition-map
is provided, the condition is applied to the map library only.
If the data-property data-hf-condition-model
is provided, the condition is applied to the model library only.
If the data-property data-hf-condition-picture
is provided, the condition is applied to the picture library only.
If the data-property data-hf-condition-sketch
is provided, the condition is applied to the sketch library only.
If you mix specific conditions with the general condition, the specific conditions take precedence.
<var
data-hf-name="MediaSettings"
data-hf-condition='{
"cond": [{
"type": "stage",
"id": "ST1",
"val": true
}],
"else": "readonly"
}'
data-hf-condition-sketches='{
"cond": [{
"type": "stage",
"id": "ST1",
"val": true
}],
"else": "invisible"
}'
data-hf-condition-maps='{
"cond": [{
"type": "stage",
"id": "ST1",
"val": true
}],
"else": "readonly",
"addNewMedia": true
}'
></var>
Save Image to Photo Album
Use this option to save all captured images through HybridForms to the photo album of a mobile device.
The definition does not affect images captured within the web App.
<var data-hf-name="MediaSettings" data-hf-saveImageToPhotoAlbum="true"> </var>
Max Filename Length
Use the option maxFilenameLength
to set the maximum length of the filename of an uploaded file. If the filename is longer than the given value, the filename gets shortened. Default value is 80.
<var data-hf-name="MediaSettings" data-hf-maxFilenameLength="20"> </var>
Character Whitelist
Same options as above within the FormSettings
-variable.
Use this option to set a whitelist of allowed characters for all media files the user is uploading.
You can use the regular expression or the string version of the whitelist. If both are provided the regular expression is used.
Optionally you can provide your own error text for the invalid character error message.
If you want to give the user a hint what characters are not accepted in the current input, you can use the placeholder {0}
in your error text (E.g: "The following characters are invalid: 0").
You can also provide translation keys.
If no error text is provided, a default error message is used.
The character whitelisting setting of the FormSettings
variable is also applied to file names of the uploaded media files. If you want to allow special characters in the uploaded file names, you have to provide them in the media settings variable.
Register Maps
Use this option to register maps that should be available in your Form Template. Each of the listed maps has to be registered in the Admin UI. You can find more information on this topic in the section: Integration of maps.
<var data-hf-name="MediaSettings" data-hf-registerMaps="googleMapsApiKey,hfMap-MapLibreBaseMap,Basemap-OpenLayers">
</var>
Initializer
You can use this variable to define initializer functions that execute during the form rendered, view rendered (PDF), and form disposed events.
Provide the namespace and function that is defined in Custom Code. When using this variable the data-hf-rendered
function is required.
- HTML
- TypeScript
<var
data-hf-name="Initializer"
data-hf-rendered="HFFormdefinition.Namespace.onRendered"
data-hf-view-rendered="HFFormdefinition.Namespace.onViewRendered"
data-hf-disposed="HFFormdefinition.Namespace.onDisposed"
></var>
export function onRendered() {
console.log('************** onRendered **************');
HFFormdefinition.Namespace.doSomethingOnRendered();
}
export function onViewRendered() {
console.log('************** onViewRendered **************');
HFFormdefinition.Namespace.doSomethingOnViewRendered();
}
export function onDisposed() {
console.log('************** onDisposed **************');
HFFormdefinition.Namespace.doSomethingOnDisposed();
}
This variable could be used to replace an Initializr
custom control that has been utilized to execute Custom Code on form rendered events.
Reachout
HybridForms ReachOut is a module for anonymous external/internal use of forms. With the Reachout
variable you can configure the behavior of the Reachout module.
<var
data-hf-name="Reachout"
